40713 Japan Postcard is a fine souvenir.
I've only built two Postcard sets, but I think Japan Postcard is one of the better ones. Or possibly even the best in this series?
Mt Fuji is given a bit of depth with this protruding layer of snow.
Sakura! A season that draws even more tourists to Japan than usual. Beneath this cherry blossom tree is a stone lantern.
A Himeji-like castle reflects Japan's long history and love for preserving the past. Behind is a bamboo forest.
Red bridge over pond with lotus flower. The pond is framed with autumn leaves, autumn being another popular season for sightseeing.
You can swap out the "Japan" sign with "日本" (Nihon, which is the Japanese name for Japan).
I didn't really fancy either sign, because I find the printed design to be at odds somehow with the geometric build.
So I made my own sign: a Japanese flag.
One round red tile and three white 2x2 tiles. The middle tile has a stud to hold the red sun.
I'm definitely carrying this home with me, whenever I finally leave Japan.
For now, it's such a great bookshelf piece; I'm leaving it on display as long as I can.
