Ludicrous: my last gaming update was almost 3 years ago!
No, I haven't stopped playing. Just wasn't motivated to blog about games. I had a sickly year of pregnancy, then the craziness of life with two younglings.
The bigger the backlog grows, the less appealing is the task of catching up.
So I'll just mention notable games completed between 2023 and 2025. Starting from most recent . . .
Strange Antiquities is one of the few games I've ever bought on launch date. Antiquities did not disappoint and, in fact, improved on its predecessor Strange Horticulture. Both are essentially puzzle games heavily driven by an occult-themed story and eerie atmosphere.
Dave the Diver was the most recent, most addictive, and most humorous game I finished. I loved the thrill and terror of shark hunting, combined with restaurant management and Diner Dash mechanics.
KOTOR 2 is the sequel to classic Star Wars RPG Knights of the Old Republic. A little janky and cheesy but gratifying. Figured I'd only play once, so I chose the path of the Dark Side. So thankful for the addition of Turbo Mode, which let me speed-walk through the map faster than Sonic can roll.
Coffee Talk and A Space for the Unbound are Indonesian visual novels. The latter is set in Indonesia, specifically among schoolkids in the 1990s. Many elements of Unbound's setting were familiar and nostalgic for me. Both had an overall story that was worth seeing through.
The most hours were poured into Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Called one of the greatest games ever. I agree. Even just the physics of movement alone is so well done.
Eastward: Octopia was a huge dose of farming sim coziness. It's actually a DLC of the pixel action-adventure Eastward; the main game is a totally different genre. Loved the East Asian and Southeast Asian cuisines in its cooking portion.
I replayed Curious Expedition 2 and Into the Breach for something familiar. These turn-based strategy games are my comfort food.
I don't remember if I ever finished Planescape: Torment back in the early 2000s, but I'm glad I revisited one of the best written computer RPGs. The Switch version I played came bundled with Icewind Dale. I also revisited IWD but got distracted; its focus on combat is less compelling than Planescape, but it has its own strengths.
Final Fantasy IV, the pixel remaster, was really enjoyable and relaxing thanks to quality-of-life cheats. Love the music! I'd never finished the original.
Least recent on this list is Triangle Strategy back in 2023. Battles dragged but I liked the characters and their unique abilities. Still haven't parted with my copy of this game, so I guess that says something about it.
Last but not least in my gaming life . . . we got a Switch 2! After saving up for 2 years, the price was still higher than expected, so we sold off our PS4, Switch 1, one retro emulator, a non-functioning PS Vita (yep, people want it), and other smaller things.
Can confirm that Switch 2 does indeed have faster loading times than Switch 1, which is a huge benefit by itself!
So far I've tried Mario Kart World (nice), Tears of the Kingdom (got distracted and stopped), and Star Wars: Outlaws (almost done). SW Outlaws is awesome for fans of Star Wars like me, but maybe not for others.
2026 will see fewer game completions, but that's alright. Life is full, so I'll take my own sweet time.
