Gaming mom #004: Mummy beats 'em up on Streets of Rage 4

Taking the fight to the streets! After putting baby to bed, of course.

In my last post, I said how much I've enjoyed Streets of Rage 4. Easy enough for newcomers, really sweet art, stellar soundtrack.

A short game, 12 levels only, and we cleared it in several hours. Playing online co-op was a nice time with my brother-in-law, whom we only get to see once a year.

Always close to flunking.

We also did three-player local co-op with a friend named L. He comes for a sleepover a few times a year and is the only gaming buddy we play face-to-face with these days. (Not because of Covid-19, but because we just don't have many gamer friends nearby in Japan.) Miss S has taken to L, which is sweet.

After settling her in bed and having dinner, we three adults crammed into her playpen for a session . . . which got interrupted when she woke for her usual milk feed and had trouble falling asleep after. But we got through half the game nevertheless.

Here are more screenshots, as promised.

If Axel has aged, why hasn't Aunty Blaze?

"Bar" goes with "Brawl"

Those legs aren't just for looking at.

Leisurely walk atop a speeding train.

Yes, extra life in 6000 points, but I never get there.

Three-player co-op. We didn't fight over who got to pick up the Star because we're all adults now.

Environmental hazards hurt both you and the enemy. In this case, you.

Blaze getting tossed into a blaze.

A kick in the groin is a serious thing, best get it looked at.

Cherry's my main because she can hop around fast as a bunny, which is about all I'm good for in fighting games and why I never win at Smash Brothers.

Dramatic exit.

Did you know the Chicken and Apple items can be swapped out for other foods in the options menu?

Sakura trees make any place beautiful, don't you agree?

A tough boss, down.

Yeowch! Gut problems have various causes; being punched there is one.

Father-and-daughter tag team. Special memories!

A hidden level, so retro! (Everything's retro these days)

You can unlock avatars from previous games. It's so nineties!
